Remembering Miss D's 80th Birthday
For Miss D’s 80th birthday in 1988, we were staying at San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, CA.
I wanted to throw her a surprise party. Bob Osborne, her good and dear friend, graciously flew in from New York. I came from Paris ready to stay and work with her on her next film. We had a magician drive up from the Magic Castle in Los Angeles to surprise her with magic tricks.
And surprise her he did.
She was just like a little kid, amazed and fascinated by his magic abilities.
We hired a flutist to play for her while having dinner - of course we had him play La Vie En Rose - one of her favorites.
What wonderful times we all had together. I am so grateful to have shared them with Miss D. I just smile thinking of those memories - and, of course, thinking of her.
Today, I wish her a happy "3rd" birthday (111 = 1+1+1 = 3). After 50, Miss D always added the digits together to stay forever young.
You are forever young, Miss D.
